A new Documentary from Gertrude Thistle...
Coming Christmas Day, 2025
I am currently composing the music for this profound and ground-breaking documentary in conjunction with director Gertrude Thistle and Creekside Productions. This unique film follows a defenestrated Christmas tree that, in January 2025, was replanted in a small, south east London park. Here it lives out its remaining days, providing a place for existential, and often morbid, reflection from the family who wish to revive the dying tree in time for next Christmas.

The surreal nature of this documentary has allowed for great versatility in the score. Haunting banjos from within the story world evolve into a swelling score of strings and synths in a particular moment of uncanny trans-diegesis. The score emulates the light and shade of the documentary, dancing between harsh digital noise and assuasive, pastoral piano. Both the story and the composition are simultaneously melancholic and euphoric; morbid and comical; abrasive and soothing.
